The True Weight of Carrying Bikes Off Your Hitch
This is one of the most common mistakes we see from customers who buy a hitch online or at a big-box store. A smaller vehicle gets sold a 1¼-inch receiver because it’s cheaper or “good enough.” That decision often limits usable tongue weight and can make carrying 2–4 bikes unsafe—especially e-bikes.
When we’re planning for multiple bikes, we typically spec a 2-inch receiver because it supports higher tongue weight ratings, a wider rack selection, and better long-term flexibility.

Wiring 101 — The Critical Upgrade Most People Miss
Your trailer has to communicate with your vehicle—lights, signals, braking. That requires proper wiring.
Bike racks don’t require wiring. Trailers do. The most efficient time to add wiring is during the initial hitch install—not later when the vehicle has to be reopened.
